CONNECTIVITY AND NETWORK STRENGTHENING GRANT
The Connectivity Grant is designed to subsidize the costs of communication tools that enable Senior Fellows to contribute actively to the MF Network through its collaborative and interactive programs, projects, and activities.
Only Senior Fellows are eligible for this grant.
As stated in the guiding principle, the Melton Foundation is committed to advancing positive change in the world by empowering its members through open communication and lasting bonds of friendship. The purpose of the Connectivity Grant is to drive consequential collaboration among the foundation’s members by providing the means for open lines of communication.
The MF may sponsor the following tools to enhance connectivity of Senior Fellows.
- Basic computer equipment (desktop or laptop; not printer)
- Peripherals for connecting (webcam, head phones)
- High bandwidth internet connection
Award Criteria and Requirements
Successful applicants for Connectivity grants must meet the following criteria in strengthening the network of fellows (i.e., connectivity, bonding) achieved through demonstrable and concrete activities. The applicant’s proposal should describe and commit to at least two of the following activities per year for the duration of the grant (3 years). Successful applications should reflect a level of contribution commensurate with the size and duration of the grant.
- SF godparent to a JF
- Mentor in Training Program (if selected)
- Trainer/facilitator in JF or SF Orientations (if selected)
- Be an active member of a Solution Group
- Active SF member in Workgroup (SFs are now able to join “Discussion Groups”)
- Active role in implementation of MF-sponsored group grant projects which require online activities
- Successful (active and engaged) online leadership role in MF governance (Board Rep, ProCom, etc.)
- Delivering and/or participating in real-time events
- Work on the design and/or development of the MF’s online communications infrastructure
- Other projects or initiatives suggested by the applicant in this proposal that clearly meet the above network building criterion.
Administrative Requirements. See the MF Granting Policy for eligibility, administrative, and reporting requirements. Additional administrative criteria specific to this aware are:
- Hardware: Up to US$1,500 to cover 80% of the actual cost:
- Computer (desktop or laptop, not including money for printers)
- Peripherals that enhance connectivity (e.g. webcam, microphone, modem)
- Broadband Connectivity: Up to US$1,500 for 80% of the monthly cost of up to 3-years of broadband connectivity
- Adjustments to the grant:
- If the equipment purchased costs less than was listed in the application submitted, the grant will be recalculated based on the actual cost of the equipment purchased.
- If the equipment purchased is more expensive than was listed in the application, funds will be adjusted provided the adjustment is related to a cost increase of the same equipment and does not exceed the grant limit under the 80/20 ratio.
A Senior Fellows can apply for a combination of hardware and broadband connectivity as long as the total requested from the MF is below the limit of $1500.
- In addition, you:
- Must not have received a Connectivity Grant in the last three (3) years
- Must not have the equipment being requested. If applicant possesses the equipment, then the equipment must be inadequate – it is the applicant’s responsibility to prove this.
- Must not have received a Computer as a JF that is under 3 years old.
- Must be an active member of the foundation.
